Introduction to SWAY

Welcome to SWAY!

SWAY also known as ¿Quién será? is a bolero-mambo song written in 1954 by Mexican composers Luis Demetrio and Pablo Beltrán Ruiz.

¿Quién será? means Who will it be? and it was originally a melancholy Spanish song about lost love.

Norman Gimbel added English lyrics about how a man's heart is affected when his partner "sways" as they dance. This new song, titled "Sway", became a standard when it was recorded by singer Dean Martin in 1954.

We'll explore SWAY in three levels.

Easiest level - For complete beginners. No music! Also great for piano players who struggle to memorize a piece. No written notes to forget!

More Advanced - We'll look at a standard lead sheet in A mnor, add some 4-note chords and explore latin/mambo rhythm.

Most Experienced - We'll move the key into the original key of E minor. We'll add more advanced chords and spread them out between two hands. The rhythm will be more advanced and we can improvise on the basic lead sheet.

Learning online means you can go as slow or quick as you wish. You can pause, repeat and jump around. It gives you a lot of freedom to learn in your own unique way. Some parts of lessons you will do multiple times and that's OK, no one is watching! Let's SWAY!
